Norfolk Square Brewery would like to congratulate Diane Flynn of Blofield for winning a mixed case of our ales in the competition published in the summer 2009 NIPS. Diane who is a CAMRA member visited the brewery to collect her prize and said that she had picked up the copy of NIPS at the Rose Tavern in Norwich. We hope she enjoys the beers.

23rd July 2008

Norfolk Square Brewery is happy to announce that there were 3 winners of the competition to name our first beer, all with a variation to the name Pi. These are Mr Graham Brighton, aged 58, married with 2 children. He is an engineering contractor. The second winner is Mr Stephen Turner, aged 53, who also has two children and works for the National Grid, and the third winner is Mr Darrell King, a retired school teacher. All the winners are from the Great Yarmouth area.

They collected their prize, of one third of a firkin of real ale each at the N²B Real Ale shop where they also sampled beers from our range, including Stiletto and Scroby Bitter.

The winning name is Pi and the beer is a light amber bitter with a fresh hoppy, citrus aroma, a serious thirst quencher.

N²B is represented at the Great Yarmouth beer festival. It was certainly an interesting and fun experience with over 50 Real Ales on offer. We put up a firkin so the festival revellers could sample some of our beer and get some inspiration with naming it.

6th May 2008

We have completed our first brew. We have been brewing for quite a while both at home and in other breweries, but it was still a daunting experience to do a first brew on a new plant. Fortunately we had Brendon over giving us a hand and ensuring all worked to plan.

The recipe is a 3.8% ABV bitter, slightly hoppy and amber in colour. We are currently running a competition to name the beer, so look our in the new NIPS, Great Yarmouth beer festival guide and in the Great Yarmouth Mercury.

Below are some pictures of the brew taking place.

We start with cleaning and more cleaning Mashing the malt
There is a lot of sweeping involved Next step the sparging of the grain The sparge arm at work
Our makeshift chimney There was a lot of steam In goes the yeast, we are making beer...

The day finally arrived. Our brewing plant arrives to much excitement. It did take a lot of lifting to get into place and at one point we had to summon assistance to put a fermenter in place.

We start unloading the truck Getting the copper in place and it weighed a ton
The brew plant revealed Placing a fermenter Our neighbours arrive to help with the second fermenter
The mash tun is carried in Happiness is... All done, time to brew!
